The B\u00fcech-Durance hospital is the heir to a remarkable architecture designed by Jacques Carlu, whose buildings are scattered throughout the Parc des Baronnies-Proven\u00e7ales in the tradition of village hospitals. The hospital and the Frac have joined forces this year by inviting Quentin Spohn to sublimate this architecture and the luxuriant vegetation through his painting work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by the exceptional architectural heritage of the hospital site built in 1959 by Jacques Carlu, architect of the Palais de Chaillot and the NATO Palace in Paris, Quentin Spohn has focused on the production of frescoes on the walls of these buildings. Having a practice centered mainly around black and white drawing, it is following a visit to the Fernand L\u00e9ger Museum in Biot that the artist decided to introduce color for the very first time in these pictorial proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a raw material essential to life, like water and fire. It is impossible to conceive of human beings without a colorful atmosphere. Cette r\u00e9sidence de cr\u00e9ation est l’occasion de prolonger ses exp\u00e9rimentations plastiques avec la couleur tout en puisant son inspiration dans les paysages environnants \u00e0 la beaut\u00e9 sauvage ind\u00e9niable. L’observation de la faune et de la flore locales, associ\u00e9e \u00e0 la composition d’un r\u00e9pertoire visuel li\u00e9 \u00e0 sa collecte de feuilles, de coquillages et de fruits lors de promenades, lui permet de composer des panoramas o\u00f9 s’entrem\u00ealent motifs v\u00e9g\u00e9taux et animaux. En r\u00e9alisant ses peintures murales, son souhait est de rester \u00e0 contre-courant de l’esth\u00e9tique de la peinture de m\u00e9nagerie jouant sur une certaine forme d’exotisme. Pour Quentin Spohn, il s’agit plut\u00f4t de recentrer le regard du patient, du soignant ou du visiteur sur ce qui se trouve devant lui : la beaut\u00e9 de la nature toute proche, visible et palpable, \u00e0 exp\u00e9rimenter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thought as an open process allowed by the format of this residency, the frescoes have not been formally determined in advance. They are realized and adapted to the particularities of the places, in resonance with their environment in perpetual movement and will evolve with the exchanges with the various public present on the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
